“Citizens for Littleton Public Schools” is a local issue committee. We are comprised of volunteers with the purpose of engaging the community and raising awareness about LPS and the 2026 Mill Levy Override ballot initiative through advocacy, education and non-partisan campaign support.

On August 13, the LPS Board of Education passed a resolution to refer a Mill Levy Override to the November 2026 ballot.

For decades, Littleton Public Schools has been one of the top performing school districts in Colorado — and was named a 2026 District Accredited with Distinction, the state's highest honor. A quality, well-rounded education that serves EVERY child in our district is what we've come to expect from LPS. To continue this tradition of excellence, we are asking for your support.

What is a Mill Levy Override (MLO), and why does LPS need one?

A Mill Levy Override (MLO) is a local funding measure that allows a school district to raise additional revenue directly from its own community — money that stays within the district and is controlled locally, not by the state.

LPS is facing a $10.6 million budget shortfall, driven by state-level revenue constraints, ongoing changes to Colorado's school funding formula, declining enrollment, and rising operational costs.

Please note that our MLO is a local ballot issue and unrelated to the statewide Prop NN. 

The district has already made significant budget reductions. To balance the 2026-27 budget, LPS implemented central staffing cuts, departmental budget reductions and restructuring, an employee wage freeze, and a districtwide furlough day. These measures kept the district budget balanced this year, but these are one-time, temporary fixes — not a sustainable path forward. Without stable, ongoing local funding, LPS will face deeper, permanent cuts in the years ahead, directly affecting the people and programs our community values most.

The $10 million MLO on the November ballot will provide dedicated, ongoing local funding to:

• Retain and attract outstanding teachers — lifting the temporary wage freeze and ensuring competitive compensation to recruit and keep top-tier educators

• Sustain academic excellence and career readiness — protecting classroom funding, keeping student-to-teacher ratios intact, and preserving career readiness programming

• Maintain safe, secure schools and operations — supporting safety, wellness, and operational needs, and preventing future furlough days

If approved, compensation adjustments for district staff will be reinstated retroactively to the start of the contract year, and the scheduled furlough day will be removed from the calendar.
